The Stockholm Bach Choir, in Sweden "Bachkören", was formed in 1964
by Anders Öhrwall as a group specialising in the music of the Baroque. Until
1999 the choir was associated with the Adolf Fredrik church in Stockholm.
After that the Stockholm Bach Choir first collaborated with the concert venue
Nalen in Stockholm and then with the parish of Sundbyberg, a suburb of Stockholm.
For the moment the choir works as an independent ensemble.
The choir's performances are distinguished by musical vivacity, suppleness
of rhythm and carefully moulded articulation. Starting with concert activities
in Stockholm, the choir has earned for itself, through concert tours (Europe,
China, Japan, Australia, USA and Canada), gramophone recordings and radio
and television broadcasts, an important place in Swedish music-making. Baroque
music apart, the choir performs both modern and classical choir music. An
important tradition for many people in Stockholm is the annual Christmas concert,
where many of Anders Öhrwall's popular adaptations are being performed.
